Unlocking Rural Wealth through Inclusive Agricultural Financing
Why Smallholder Farmers?
Smallholder farmers produce 80% of the food we eat, yet despite their crucial role, they remain among the poorest and most vulnerable groups affected by poverty. Less than 5% of commercial lending in Africa goes to agriculture and under 1% reaches smallholders. This financing gap restricts their ability to access quality inputs, equipment, and markets, limiting their ability to produce more and grow their incomes.
Why Youth in Agriculture?
Malawi is a youth populated country with over 75% of the population below the age of 35. Unemployment is the most pressing issue for this huge youth population and agriculture. Although agriculture provides opportunities for creating economic opportunities for rural youth, many young people are unable to engage in profitable agriculture due to limited access to financing for inputs and equipment.
